SBNation
It is snowing in Philadelphia for Army-Navy. A lot. While it’s almost impossible to see the Army players on the field, CBS has made it significantly easier for viewers to see the players’ progress on the field by digitally imposing field numbers to the broadcast.
This isn’t the first time this has happened at Lincoln Financial Field. Back in 2013, when heavy snow fell for the Lions vs. Eagles game, Fox added numbers for ease of viewing.
It’s similar to other markings on the field that have been added by broadcasters. The yellow first down line has been helping fans gauge the line-to-gain since its debut in 1998.
Technology for the win.
