The National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) is starting off the new year in spectacular fashion!
In addition to announcing its 2020 class of Inductees live from CES® in Las Vegas on Jan. 7, NIHF is also bringing one of its most popular museum exhibits to the show: the Virtual Yellow 1st & Ten® line exhibit, replicating an interactive display in the NIHF Museum in Alexandria, Va.
Exhibit Highlights
In partnership with SMT and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the popular Virtual Yellow 1st & Ten line exhibit will be making its CES debut.
One of the greatest engineering achievements in sports broadcasting, this Emmy-winning technology is a product of the brain trust at SMT – including 2018 NIHF Inductee Stan Honey.
On Sept. 27, 1998, the innovation developed by Honey and his team at Sportvision, acquired by SMT in 2016, was introduced during an ESPN-televised game between the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. Now ubiquitous in football, the superimposed yellow line has been hailed as one of the most important developments in sports broadcast technology since the debut of instant replay in 1963 and the live clock-and-score graphic in 1996, also developed by SMT.
Test the Technology
At CES, NIHF will give fans the chance to operate the Virtual Yellow 1st & Ten line firsthand.
Using the technology developed by Honey and his team, visitors are able to put themselves in the production truck as they learn how to activate the virtual line used on live television.
The NIHF exhibit can be found as part of the U.S. government pavilion, Booth 50000 in Eureka Park, with the USPTO, America’s Seed Fund powered by the National Science Foundation, the Small Business Administration and SelectUSA. Look for the booth with the synthetic turf grass and goalposts!
Don’t Miss Out
The Virtual Yellow 1st & Ten line is truly a game-changing innovation! Don’t miss your opportunity to work behind the scenes as you activate the famous yellow first-down line!
