SMT will provide scoring services, on-course digital displays, broadcast services, and media services for the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY.
“The additional on-course digital displays are another way we are creating additional communications channels to enhance the player and viewer experience,” says Ryan McDonald, Director of Business Development, SMT.
New for 2020 will be the addition of 10 digital on-course LED displays featuring scoring, projected cut, and other related messaging primarily for the players. In addition to the on-course digital displays, SMT will provide LED digital presentations within the media center, golf course maintenance compound, and 1st tee.
In its 13th year providing services SMT will continue to provide its GolfX scoring system, a platform that collects real-time scoring and shot-by-shot ball location data for each player. In addition to grouping and pairings creation, scoring services, and statistical data collection, GolfX also generates daily and post-tournament media reports with comprehensive statistical information for electronic distribution.
SMT’s Tournament Information System (TIS), a subsystem of GolfX, is made available to broadcast compounds, network studios, and onsite media personnel. With the TIS, broadcasters and media can gain instantaneous access of scoring and statistical breakdowns, practice round tee times, on-course groupings and group locations, tee times, and course/hole information.
Additionally, SMT will provide its Broadcast Interface (BrINT), Electronic Spotter Board (ESB), and TIS in support of NBC, Golf Channel, and the World Feed within the on-site Television Broadcast Compound at Winged Foot Golf Club as well as to off-site NBC facilities in Stamford, Conn., and Orlando, FL.
